Super-Takumar 1.4/50 lens for my Canon

Today I received a package with a new addtion to my collection of manual focus lenses for my Canon EOS 350D. It is the Pentax Asahi Super-Takumar 1.4/50 — I believe it to be the best in my collection, and I am confident that it is sharper than the Canon kit lens. It is definitely faster with a max aperture of 1/1.4. The shutter often complains that it can not go faster than 1/4000 s. Then I just stop down to 1/2.8 which probably is its sharpest state.
Below are some test photos I took right after I had put it on. Look at that depth of field!
I’ve used this lens on my Canon Xt400, and the results are really unbelivable. Sharpeness is the best I have seen, color is superb, focusing manually is quite nice, and stopping it while exposure tells you over or under, just looking at the composing light is a pleasure, reminding of “less computer, more brain times”. A must lens for people who appreciate real quality. Softness of rings is outstanding, can`t really think it´s true, believe it or not true but focusing and aperture rings are soft as silk. Every other lens I have used seems hard to me now. Photography remains being that instant of true: Just Glass and film (sensor right now). Everything else is just merchandising.
I have to agree with the parts that I actually understand. All this technical photography mumbo jumbo does me no good at all. Having just ordered a DSLR for myself I’d better get a prime lens in the same category for show off.

Rather impressive photography. Particularly the photo of the broom sends a very complex, detailed statement, leaving to the imagination where the broom has been… The only sure thing is: It is not Henning who have used it!…..
Where can I get hold of one and how much do they do for. It would make a good portrait lens on my Canon 20D with it’s wide aperture.
Yes it is an excellent portrait lens, but because it is manual focus, it is slower to focus.
I bought mine from eBay for around $150 at the time – they don’t go cheap.
However, I recently shifted boat to Sony, and bought an old Minolta 50/1.4 for it, so this Takumar is not used, so I may put it for sale on eBay myself, along with a m42-Canon adapter with autofocus confirmation.
If you don’t have any autofocus confirm adapters, I strongly recommend you get one for your m42 lenses – they enable the camera autofocus diodes and beeps while focusing manually with these lenses.

Well I have one now. Wide open the image is soft, great for portraits, and by f2.8 the image is pin sharp. A great lens that needs to be kept in sunlight to prevent the browning of the rear element.
i used to use this lenses with my 350d and later on with olded film pentax and i was really dissapointed by very unsharp results at any apperture.. this is not just only very positive review so i wonder if mine wasnt just some crappy one..
